Abstract
This research analyzes Ibn Khaldun’s concept of Ashabiyyah as a philosophical–conceptual framework for understanding the crisis of social solidarity within the Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI). The weakening of collective cohesion, the rise of internal fragmentation, and the fading of ideological commitment among HMI cadres are examined as symptoms of social disintegration that parallel Ibn Khaldun’s theory of the cyclical rise and decline of communities. This study seeks to reinterpret Ashabiyyah not as a purely genealogical bond, but as a value-based moral consciousness capable of explaining and responding to the shifting dynamics of solidarity in contemporary HMI. This study employs a library research method supported by a philosophical–conceptual analytical approach. Primary sources include Ibn Khaldun’s Muqaddimah and key literature on the history and ideological structure of HMI, while secondary sources consist of scholarly books, journal articles, and relevant previous studies. The analysis is conducted through descriptive–analytical interpretation, focusing on clarifying the meaning, conceptual structure, and normative orientation of Ashabiyyah, and subsequently linking these conceptual elements to the socio-ideological realities of HMI today. The findings reveal that Ashabiyyah holds significant relevance as a foundational value for reconstructing solidarity among HMI cadres, particularly amidst the current crisis of identity and declining collective commitment. Philosophically interpreted as a shared moral consciousness, Ashabiyyah explains the roots of fragmentation and offers a normative framework for revitalizing solidarity based on justice, cooperation, and the organization’s mission. The study concludes that the revitalization of Ashabiyyah is essential for restoring the spirit of struggle within HMI and strengthening the ideological foundation of cadre formation in the face of modern challenges.
