Abstract
The parenting model of farming families is a pattern of child-rearing that develops within family life shaped by agricultural activities. The nature of parents’ work as farmers, which occupies much of their time, has the potential to influence parenting practices and the development of independence in early childhood. However, empirical evidence shows that children in farming families are still able to demonstrate independent behavior. This study aims to analyze the parenting model of farming families and the process of developing independence in early childhood in Pendem Village, Janapria District, Central Lombok. The study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data sources consisted of farmer parents, early childhood children, and supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the parenting model of farming families is built through habituation that involves children in daily family activities. Children's independence is developed through habituation, parental guidance, and the provision of responsibilities. However, the findings indicate that the development of children's independence is influenced not only by parent–child interactions but also by the consistency of habituation, everyday experiences, and the support of family and social environments.
