Abstract

Kang Dedi Mulyadi is a political figure who has attracted widespread public attention through his populist political communication style, extensive use of social media, and a number of policies that have generated diverse public responses. This popularity prompted Tempo Magazine to publish a special edition entitled After Mulyono Comes Mulyadi, presenting a particular construction of Dedi Mulyadi's political image. This study aims to analyze the political framing of Kang Dedi Mulyadi in this edition of Tempo Magazine using Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki's framing analysis model. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through text observation, documentation, and literature review of the magazine's four main reports. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and expert triangulation. The findings reveal that Tempo frames Kang Dedi Mulyadi as a populist political figure who successfully builds close relationships with the public through social media and cultural symbols, while simultaneously portraying him as a controversial leader in terms of his leadership style, political communication, and several policies considered to prioritize image-building over substantive problem-solving. This framing demonstrates that Tempo not only reports facts but also constructs political reality through issue emphasis, source selection, and narrative organization, ultimately shaping readers' perceptions of Kang Dedi Mulyadi.
