Abstract

The rapid advancement of mobile technology and the widespread adoption of instant messaging applications have facilitated communication while simultaneously creating opportunities for cybercrime, particularly investment scams. Telegram is one of the applications frequently exploited due to its security features and message deletion capabilities, which complicate the digital forensic investigation process. Although several digital forensic frameworks, including NIST, DFRWS, NIJ, ACPO, and ISO/IEC 27037, have been widely adopted, they do not yet provide a fully integrated workflow for mobile forensic investigations. Therefore, this study proposes the Dicky-S Mobile Forensic Framework (DMFF) using the Composite Logic method. This study employed a qualitative research method with an experimental approach. DMFF was developed by analyzing and integrating the NIST, DFRWS, NIJ, ACPO, and ISO/IEC 27037 frameworks, resulting in five main stages: Forensic Readiness Phase, Preservation Stage, Collection Stage, Examination and Analysis Stage, and Reporting Stage. The proposed framework was evaluated through a simulated investment scam case involving the Telegram application on an Android device using Forensic Connector, MOBILedit Forensic Express, and Magnet Axiom. The results demonstrate that DMFF provides a systematic forensic investigation workflow covering identification, preservation, acquisition, examination, analysis, and reporting of digital evidence. MOBILedit Forensic Express successfully identified 3 of the 5 targeted digital artifacts (60%), whereas Magnet Axiom identified 4 of the 5 targeted digital artifacts (80%). These findings indicate that DMFF effectively integrates multiple forensic tools to support digital investigations of investment scam cases conducted through the Telegram application on Android devices.
