Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and self-efficacy on Generation Z's career choices in Islamic financial institutions, with social influence serving as a moderating variable. The study is motivated by the rapid growth of the Islamic finance industry, which requires qualified human resources, while Generation Z's career choices are influenced by various personal and environmental factors. This study employed a quantitative approach by collecting data through questionnaires from 140 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that FoMO and self-efficacy have a positive and significant effect on Generation Z's career choices in Islamic financial institutions. In contrast, social influence does not moderate the relationship between FoMO and career choice or between self-efficacy and career choice. These findings suggest that FoMO and self-efficacy play important roles in influencing Generation Z's career choices, whereas social influence is not supported as a moderating variable. This study is expected to contribute to the development of career choice research and serve as a reference for Islamic financial institutions in developing recruitment strategies for the younger generation.
