Abstract

Translation in the digital era has experienced significant developments along with technological advances that emphasize speed and practicality, but often neglect theoretical aspects. This phenomenon has resulted in the emergence of commercial translation products without considering the nature and function of translation. The development of Islamic science in Indonesia has made the need for Islamic literature very important for academics and the general public, one of which is realized through the translation of the book al-Ḥikam by Ibn ‘Atā’illāh as-Sakandarī. This study aims to analyze the techniques and quality of the translation of the Kalam Hikmah in the bookAl-ḤikamThe work of Ibn ‘Aṭā’illah as-Sakandarī translated by Muhammad Farid Wajdi and Iman Firdaus. This study combines a qualitative approach used to observe the application of translation techniques and a quantitative approach used to calculate the frequency of translation techniques and assess the quality of the translation by referring to the theories of Molina and Albir and Nababan. This study found that Farid Wajdi’s translation uses 13 techniques with a total translation quality score of 15.49 and Iman Firdaus uses 11 techniques with a total translation quality score of 17.3. Farid Wajdi tends to expand the explanation so as to enrich understanding but reduce the flexibility of language, while Iman Firdaus maintains the consistency of fluency and readability without neglecting the accuracy of meaning, thus obtaining quantitatively superior results. This finding emphasizes the importance of a balance between accuracy of meaning, flexibility of language and readability in producing quality translations, especially for Sufi texts such as al-Ḥikam.
