Abstract

The research was aimed to find out: 1. the correlation between social support with interpersonal competence in Javanese and Madurese students. 2. the difference of interpersonal competence between Javanese and Madurese students. The samples in this study are 114 students of Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta consisting of 77 students as Javanese and 37 students as Madurese. The quota sampling technique is used as data as data technique collection. The scale used in this study are social support scale and interpersonal competence scale. The data analysis used Spearman Rho and Mann Whitney U. The result of this research suggest that: 1. there is positive correlation between social support with interpersonal competence in Javanese and Madurese students with a correlation coefficient of 0,398 and p = 0,000. 2. there are difference significance grade of interpersonal competence between Javanese and Madurese students with score the index difference 2,341 and p = 0,027 Javanese students have high levels of interpersonal competence is higher (75,16) compered with Madurese Students (71,89).
