Abstract

The Utilization of Pectin Passion Fruit’s Rind for the Manufacture of Biodegradable Plastic Based Starch Arrowroot has been done. This study aimed to understand the impact of the addition of pectin passion fruit’s rind on the physical attributes and time of degradation of plastic in the soil. Biodegradable plastic characterized by its physical attributes include thickness, tensile strength, elongation, and young modulus. Testing of biodegradable plastic was made in the soil with the parameters for reduction of the percentage of shapes, textures and colors. The results showed that the addition of pectin passion fruit’s rind affect the physical attributes of the biodegradable plastic. The addition of pectin passion fruit’s rind tended to lose tensile strength, but increased elongation of biodegradable plastic. Biodegradation test of biodegradable plastic was observed with the parameters of organoleptic in the form of shape, texture, and color of biodegradable plastic. The percentage of shape, texture, and color biodegradable plastic decreased together with the increasing of the mass of pectin passion fruit’s rind.
