Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the intensity of social media use student’s reading interest at Ganesha Library of Senior High School 1 Jetis. The methos used in of this research is descriptive quantitative, and the type of this research is correlation. Then to determine the number of samples, the researcher uses proportionate stratified random sampling techniques, and for the data collection techniques, the researcher uses means of observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The researcher uses the formulas of mean and grand mean to determine the intensity of student’s social media use and reading interest, and to find out whether the intensity of social media use affect student’s reading interest at Ganesha Library, the researcher uses product moment correlation. The results obtained from this study are, 1) The intensity of social media use of students of Senior High School 1 Jetis falls into the high category, with an average score of 3.23. 2) Student's reading interest in Ganesha Library of Senior High School 1 Jetis falls into the high category with an average score of 2.97. 3) From the product moment correlation, the result obtained is a correlation coefficient of -0.118 which means to have low negative influence or relationship. So it can be said that the intensity of social media use has no strong effect on student’s reading interest at Ganesha Library of Senior High School 1 Jetis. 4) It is known that despite the high intensity of social media use, it still has no strong effect on student’s reading interest Ganesha Library which is equally high. It proves that the library service and certainly, a complete collection of books that are widely given at Ganesha Library can support student’s interest to read books at the Ganesha Library of Senior High School 1 Jetis with its title as national champion.
