Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on the education sector, namely the implementation of distance learning, but its implementation is considered less efficient due to many obstacles. As a result, the lack of learning achievement and the phenomenon of learning loss occur. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive case study approach. The data collection technique used interviews and documentation. The results showed that elementary school students experience learning loss due to distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Learning loss in students is influenced by several factors. Students affected by learning loss will experience certain symptoms. In addition, if learning loss is not addressed immediately, it will have a major impact on the world of education. Factors that influence learning loss are inadequate IT facilities, parents' educational background, and family income, inconsistency in learning methods, demands for student independence, one-way communication, and lack of adaptation to the new curriculum. Furthermore, learning loss experienced by students will be characterized by decreased abilities and skills and impaired emotional development of children. The resulting impact is a decrease in student achievement and learning outcomes, as well as a lack of character education, especially in independence, learning discipline and courtesy towards teachers.
