Abstract

Improving students‟ ability to write journal articles is closely related to the strategies used so that students can improve their ability to write journal articles. This thesis research was conducted at the Islamic Education Management Masters Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta. The aims of this study were to: 1) To gain more in-depth knowledge about improving the ability to write journal articles for students of the MPI Masters Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. 2) To find out strategies for improving the ability to write journal articles for MPI master program students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. 3) To find out the obstacles faced by students and lecturers in improving the ability to write journal articles for MPI master program students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used are literature studies, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction technique, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and data validity. Based on the data analysis of the research, it can be concluded that improving the ability to write journal articles for students of the Islamic Education Management Masters program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga is very important, because it will affect the student's own academic career and also strengthen the progress of the study program or study program accreditation. In improving the ability to write student journal articles, lecturers and heads of study programs formulate strategies, in accordance with the elements of strategic management, namely; a) Formulation of strategy, b). Strategy Implementation, and c) Strategy Evaluation. In improving the ability to write journal articles students also have several obstacles such as obstacles in determining words that suit the needs of scientific work, in determining themes, in collecting and matching references with the writings they want to write, and not having a rich understanding of writing journal articles, students who have different nature or character. However, these obstacles can be overcome by solving: a) Facilitating students with programs provided by the study program such as collaboration between lecturers and students, or the PKM program, b) The study program designs clinical academic writing, c) Provides rewards to students who have successfully published their writings at the sinta, national and international levels, d) Giving freedom to students to consult their writings. e) Students are given an understanding of how to write good and correct journal articles. f) Provide support and motivation to students about the importance of writing journal articles. g) Students are directed to practice writing journal articles directly.
