Abstract

This research aims to analyze the jihadists, especially Al-Saleem who is a pious Muslim but misinterprets the verses in the Qur’an about jihad and finds out the causes which have made him misinterpret the understanding of jihad in the Qur’an. The type of research in this paper is qualitative research. This paper applies the observation method to collect the data. As for analyzing the data, this paper applies the Observing, Categorizing, Classifying, and Analyzing methods. The problem that is going to be analyzed in this research is: how does Al-Saleem’s subconscious influence him to think that the bombing he carries out is an act of jihad? The researcher uses the psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud to analyze this paper. After analyzing using this theory, the researcher found that Al-Saleem's actions as shown in the movie are very similar to the explanation of instinct. Seeing the similarity of Al-Saleem’s actions in the movie with the explanation of instinct, it is most likely that instinct is the personal factor that prompted Al-Saleem to carry out bombings against Europe and America, and all of these instinctive actions are most likely generated by Al-Saleem’s grudge that Al-Saleem is eager to avenge America’s war on the Muslim world.
