Abstract

The concept of objectivity in reporting is neutral, impartial and only oriented to the realm of facts. In July 2022, news shocked the public with news of the murder of Brigadier Yosua by fellow police officers. Of course it is the main target of the mass media. CNN Indonesia is one of the platforms that will be tested for its objectivity. The aim of this research is to look at the objectivity of CNN's reporting on the murder of Brigadier Yosua using a quantitative content analysis approach according to Westerstahl's objectivity paradigm to determine the principle of objectivity which consists of 2 dimensions, namely factuality and impartiality, and these 2 dimensions are further mapped into 12 sub-sections, namely,checkability, readibility, accuracy, completeness, relevance, proportional access, two-sided, non-evaluative, non-sensational,stereotypes, juxtaposition, linkage. The author examined 32 samples of news related to the murder case of Brigadier Joshua in the online media CNN for the period 2 January-17 February 2023. Results from research on the murder of Brigadier Joshua in the online media CNN shows that the online media CNN was objective in publishing news related to the murder of Brigadier Joshua based on Westerstahl's 12 principles of objectivity, namely:checkability 78%, readibility 72%, accuracy 94%, complete 75%, relevance 91%, proportional access 72%, two-sided 78%, non-evaluative 75%, non-sensational 91%,stereotypes 75%, juxtaposition 75%, linkages 81%.
