Abstract

Disaster according to Law No. 24/2007 is an event that threatens and can result in casualties, environmental damage, property losses and community losses that have an impact on human psychology. DIY is one of the disaster-prone areas. BPBD DIY has a role in overcoming disasters, one of which is by carrying out disaster mitigation measures. This research examines how the use of Instagram @bpbd_diy as a medium to provide disaster mitigation information using disaster mitigation communication theory. This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data collection method uses interviews, documentation and literature study. The result of this research is that Instagram @bpbd_diy has been used quite well to provide disaster mitigation information to the public by utilizing features such as Bio, Photo uploads, and Caption, Hastage and Highlights. The strength of BPBD DIY's social media is that it has many social media accounts that can provide disaster mitigation information, the weakness of the @bpbd_diy Instagram account is that some images do not match the content, and so on. The opportunities that exist on the @bpbd_diy Instagram account are collaborating with other institutions to provide disaster mitigation information content to the public and the last is the threat that is feared is disaster hoax news.
